Not every client is worth it. Here are the red flags I've learned to spot — usually the hard way.

🚩 Red Flag #1: "We Don't Have a Budget"

Translation: "We want you to work for free or cheap, and we haven't thought about what this is worth."

🚩 The Flag: They say "we don't have a budget" or "we're a startup" as a reason to pay less.

Real startups have budgets. They have investor money, revenue, or at least a plan. If they can't afford you, they can't afford the project.

What to do: Give them your rate. If they balk, walk. Your time is not charity.

🚩 Red Flag #2: "Can You Start Right Away?"

Translation: "We have a deadline we already missed, and we're desperate."

🚩 The Flag: They need you to start TODAY, have no contract, and want to "figure out payment later."
